Mede8er News
Mede8er MED500X: The simple presentation includes a carrying bag, Wireless N USB stick (for Europe) and a complete package from A to Z. A big fan, very silent, NFS and SMB both integrated and overall features are well done and mature. It can still use a tune up here and there but overall the Mede8er is inside my top 2 personal RealTek based players. Thanks to it's price of €150 it made the top position over DViCo and thanks to it's more mature options and package in general including NFS and Samba, it made it on top of the Xtreamer as well. I get a call from my cousin this past weekend about a new media player he has discovered which plays EVERYTHING. I did not think it would be so great but he convinced me to come past and take a look at the one he just bought.
One word to describe it: WOW!!! It literally does everything, it handles EVERY format I've thrown at it with ease. We played full 1080p movies on it from his Sony handycam and it handles like a dream. Also, it does 24FPS. So far, the mvix I've seen jerks when playing 720p.
It handles FLAC audio, .mkv, .avi, .wma, m2ts etc etc. Passes the data directly into your amps' DAC. Also, it can take a 2TB internal drive (which is what I am using) as well as external hard drives, flash drives and SD Cards.
It was a great investment, I'd suggest it to anyone wanting a media player.
Oh, and the best part... designed locally
BTW, im not affiliated bla bla bla.

What a machine. I bought my Mede8er with a 2Tb Seagate HDD and cannot believe how fast this unit actually is. I have had a few media centers but nothing touches or even remotely touches the way the Mede8er handles playback. Fast and reliable scrolling through my MKV files and no jumping or skipping. Wow guys, we finally have a multimedia machine that outruns a workhorse. Well done to Sanji for developing something this exciting.
I did have one issue though. I bought the unit at BH Photo in Sandton and the unit I got had a scratch on the plate that you remove to put in the hard drive, it also looks like it has been touched up with paint. I phoned Martin at B and H and he was extremely helpful on the phone. He offered to send a driver to swop the unit for me at my work or home. I never wanted a new unit though because it works beautifully but just thought I would mention this minor issue.
Please also inform me as to when you might release a PVR version, hopefully one that is not as crappy as the MVIX PVR i have. Would love to have a record feature of a higher qulaity even 720p will do.
"I've gotta say though, that this unit is really amazing. Whatever you throw at it, it doesn't even break a sweat. I've got a decent spec home theatre pc hooked up via HDMI and the pc doesn't even come close in how it plays and PQ.
Well done Mede8er and I look forward to the new firmware releases."

Re: I think I want one, but here are my questions.
Since I am not a customer .. yet, I guess responding here should be fine.
I got to be part of playing with one on Monday - I work with Pyro_ZA who is the new and excited owner of the device. I just stood there and drooled. I had prepared some media to throw at it and it gobbled it up with no problems at all. I think the initial impressions posted elsewhere speak for themselves.
So, once I get my new TV, I'll be off to buy one of these for myself. But in the meantime, I'll be spending my days on the forum. Smiley I am hoping that by the time I get one, that it I'll be able to play BD ISO's and handle any of the HD audio formats too.
First Impression MED500X - Kleine Fische
It arrived 1st thing Monday morning as promised and I eagerly opened the precious cargo to reveal a great looking product. You can view the pics of the "Unpacking" here:

I didn't install a drive into the unit, but used my 1.5Tb external drive and connected it to the Mede8er via its USB port. It picked it all up no problems and when I later on decided to "hot plug" a 2nd external drive via the second USB port it picked that up too.

Plugged it in and started it up. Setup was really simple. All we needed to do was to set the video output (HDMI/TV system) to 1080p and that was it.
The menu system of the Mede8er is impressive and what I really liked was the fast forward (FFWD) process, it toggles to x2, x4, x8, x16, x32 extremely smoothly and flips back into play mode as easily. You actually watch it FFWD in real time frame by frame, no blocky jumps. The slow frame feature offered the same performance. Toggles in steps of 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 speeds and provides a frame by frame toggle as well. The 3/4 and 1/2 speeds not only slowed video but amusingly enough slowed the audio too.
When browsing your folders and begin to select media, a preview is shown on the right of the highlighted media file. If you have a jpeg in a folder and you select that folder, that jpeg is shown on the right with some additional file info. Great for browsing through a movie collection.
We tested the video playback using varying formats which it handled with no problems at all. *.MVK *.Mp4 *.Avi *.Divx *.Vob It played back standard definition, 720p and even 1080p content with no frame skipping, nothing. A smooth HD experience all around.
We then connected the Medi8er to the internet via its LAN port and selected its Internet Radio option. It downloaded the available channels and played them with ease. Once we had selected one of the channels, we were presented with a list of URL's which was a little unexpected, but once we selected one of the available URLs it offered, we heard U2 belting out the speakers. We then selected a few *.Mp3 files and the MP3 playback was good.
Next we wanted to test the UPNP function. We had setup earlier that morning a UPNP server on our network. The Mede8er found it immediately and we could browse through its folders and contents as though it was browsing an internal file system.
Well done to the guys at Sanji, nice to have a local product with a 2 year warranty, 24/72 hr Shipping and a 30 day Money back Guarantee. Well Done!
A few things I will try tomorrow, is to add a hard drive to the unit and format it via the Mede8er, I see the website recommends this as you gain additional functionality (?)
I will add my NAS to the network and enable the NAS option on the Mede8er and see how it handles that.
So all in all based on limited testing and initial impressions I would strongly recommend this product.

I considered Deleting this post but then I figured I wouldn't just to satisfy 1 naysayer.
Tired of accusations suggesting I work for Sanji / some Mede8er sales office.
I just wanted to contribute to the community and provide some of my honest feed back. Seems this community is too busy looking for the flaws and negative aspects of a post to see a simple contribution.
This is the most amazing media player in the world. The Words greatest show in the world could not be more Truthfull.
After year of using defirent types of players and PC media centre this product whips them all. The interface and simplicity of the controls is amazing. And just plays everything not having problems with codecs with a Movie data base of over a thousand movies it makes life a bliss and very impressive to all whom hass seen it so far. The big plus is Mede8er is listening to the forum and is noticed already on the Beta release V1.2 of it UIG and the changes they have made to the programing of suggestions made by the forum.
This Machine is a blast and will Elevate your Life by owning one of these babys. And a bargain....

Hi Guys,
I recieved my Mede8er today and I must say suitably impressed.
I wrote an unpacking and initial thoughts post over at Mybroadband which you can read here http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=191935 it includes pics of the unpacking
The only thing I did notice is that on the underside of my player, the hard drive plate had a small scratch 2.5 - 3mm long which had removed the paint but someone at the factory had touched it up manually. I mention this just as a QA issue on manufacturing. The hard drive plate I am sure is a low cost item, and it should strictly speaking have been removed and replaced.
But I am really micro nit picking now, cause there was nothing else to moan about
The delivery was spot on, the installation was a pleasant experience and I was up and running in minutes. All in all, I must say WELL DONE lads.
Not only is it great to have this product locally available, but it also feels great to be able to support and purchase local products. I originally was going to buy the Popcorn hour C200, but at the last minute decided to buy the Mede8er. Im really glad I did too
What a show!
Very responsive, excellent playback, very nice feel to the remote. I still find new features after 2 weeks of having it.
I have bought 2 other expensive players the past 2 months but I am only keeping this one !
At last, a player that is not stressed to its limits trying to do ordinary things like playing media.
I have peace of mind now........
Hello
I must say that I am impressed with the unit, I have purchased many items over the years relating to audio and visual and I must say that this “little” box has been the best buy in years , I have download music concerts in the part and to my disappointment , the ps3 , xbox , mvix 780 and many other methods I used did not work , either there would be a picture and no sound or visa versa but when I new that there will be a new multimedia player coming out so I kept all these files that would not play and I tried them on the MEDE8TER yesterday and every file I threw at device worked . I have a fair range of equipment and the quality is above norn and I must say the video processing of the mediator is up there with the big boys, if you wish see link attached with the set up that I have , when I have chance I will take a pic of the mede8er and update the site

Greetings
I am a first time purchaser of a Multimedia player and after deliberation of about 24 hours I decided to settle on the Medi8er. Needless to say I'm very impressed with this local product. Firstly, the product was shipped to me in record time (placed the order just after noon on Friday from a site in JHB...the item was ready for collection in DBN at around 8am Saturday Morning).
I installed and formatted a 1.5TB Samsung HDD and the unit was ready to go. Just one niggle, the System Info recognised the HDD space as 1TB but I'm sure that can be sorted out.
I arranged most of my JPEG photos, MP3 files, AVCHD files. The user menu and remote commands are fairly intuitive and quite quick. This baby played back almost every codec I could test on her in these 24 odd hours.
This is a superb product. I can see that a lot of thought and flexibility went into the design of this tank and it sure delivers. It's great to acknowledge that it is homegrown and I certainly hope that it will gain the accolades it richly deserves with aggressive marketing and exposure.
The high-def content (1080p) with 5.1 surround through the HDMI is second to none and the sleek black box, complements a PVR and the PS3.
I sincerely hope that there are regular firmware updates that will unleash the full potential of this unit (HD upscaling, DTS HD-MA passthrough, WMA advanced compatibility are a few of note), but for now its
For: Everything
Against: Nothing
Please advise when a compatible Wi-Fi dongle will be available as that is the cherry on the top as far as I'm concerned. The NAS works well considering some limitations.
If there is a more detailed manual, please post a link on the site, as there seems to be far more than this unit has to offer in the introductory guide. Also the added cables, Component, USB dongle and chunky HDMI was greatly appreciated; something that would have to be purchased as 'optional' with other devices in this genre.
Once again thank you for a great product and two resounding thumbs up to the developers and techs at SANJI.
The show has just begun...
